How Artex Nam An Joined Hands With BEBE BASK To Craft Safer, Stronger, And More Sustainable Nursery Products

Artex Nam An was eager when BEBE BASK® came to us with a request: to develop a nursery bassinet that could endure long journeys, meet the world’s strictest safety standards, and still feel as soft and inviting as a baby’s first home.

Meet BEBE BASK®

BEBE BASK® is an Australian brand founded on the values of sustainability, heritage, and meaningful design. Their extensive collection of handcrafted nursery products ranges from bassinets to diaper caddies. Each piece is fair-trade certified and made by Vietnamese artisan mothers who handcraft products from the comfort of their home while caring for their own children.

With a mission to empower parents through conscious choices, BEBE BASK offers heirloom-quality goods made to be cherished for generations, while celebrating preservation of cultural craftsmanship.

Artex Nam An is honored to have supported BEBE BASK since its early days and to witness its remarkable growth firsthand.

Challenges and Objectives

Bringing a natural baby product from concept to crib is rarely straightforward. Rustic in style, gentle in scent, and calming to the eye, those were the ideas BEBE BASK envisioned for this baby seagrass bassinet product line. But turning that vision into bassinets that meet international standards for handicraft products in general and safety standards for baby products in particular? It required an extra level of careful consideration.

Regarding Product Development Concerns

Creating sustainable baby products from natural, handwoven materials presents unique challenges, especially when balancing authentic design with the demands of international transport.

For BEBE BASK’s seagrass bassinets, the primary obstacle was maintaining the product’s structure stability. The inherently unstructured nature of hand-braided seagrass meant initial prototypes were vulnerable to deformation during overseas shipment, potentially leading to an inconsistent customer experience.

There were also concerns with the twisted seagrass handles, which are prone to weakening and breakage after drying, raising potential safety issues that must not be ignored in baby products.

Regarding Safety And Quality Necessities

Beyond these structural demands, there were key concerns specific to baby products made for the global market. Every component had to be non-toxic and safe for infants. As orders increased, it was also important to maintain consistent, high quality and a clean, premium finish across all batches.

The brand also explicitly sought to protect their unique product designs, while keeping all solutions cost-effective and scalable for production.

How We Address BEBE BASK’s Concerns

To tackle these issues, clear objectives were set as the overarching guidelines for the Research and Development team, the Sourcing team, and the Quality Control team during our collaboration effort.

Tackling Product Development Concerns

To tackle the core issue of product deformation during shipment and handling, we implemented two key strategies.

First, we applied a thicker, toxic free glue treatment to the seagrass braids during the weaving stage. This significantly increased the bassinet’s structural firmness, allowing it to hold its shape more effectively throughout rigorous logistics. Complementing this, we designed a custom-designed circular cardboard insert for providing crucial internal structural support, effectively preventing deformation during transit.

Addressing the concern of handle weakening and breakage, we replaced the original twisted seagrass core with a reinforced jute rope core, wrapped in seagrass. Jute’s strength and elasticity made the handles significantly more durable, while retaining the soft feel and natural look, perfect for baby products.

Addressing Safety And Quality Necessities

All materials used were carefully tested for infant safety. Our sourcing team ensured each component met both internal standards and international safety requirements.

And to deliver a clean, premium finish across growing order volumes, we closely followed shared Quality Control guidelines that prioritized consistency, while keeping the beloved handmade feel of each piece.

Outcome and Impact

BEBE BASK’s baby seagrass bassinet product line now travels farther, more safely, and more consistently than before. The updated design allowed for fewer product defects during transportation, lowering overall return rates.

From the outside, the bassinets remain as soft and inviting as ever. But beneath the delicate weave lies a form that has been strengthened from within. With the added glue reinforcement and internal supports, the final product arrived at retailers intact and presentable, no matter how long the shipping journey. The redesigned handles passed repeated durability tests without cracking, flaking, or unraveling.

And most importantly, every single element that went into the bassinet – from the structural jute core to the glue, threads, and packaging, was made safe enough to meet the strictest global infant product requirements.

This baby seagrass bassinet project has laid the groundwork for a growing product line that’s ready for the next chapter. And at Artex Nam An, we’re proud to help bring that vision into the world, by redefining what is possible.
